A warm cooked meal digested by the body through the pathway of the Stomach meridian is the epitome of this Earth organ. It is the organ that transforms food into qi for the body by moving fluids downward.
Peristalsis in the esophagus is a Western example of a properly functioning Stomach meridian.
The stomach participates in the main way we take care of ourselves, with food and drink. In extension nourishing our own health by taking in what we need to from the environment is a a physical and psychological effect of the Stomach organ. Therefore stress can effect our bodies most obviously through the Stomach. Bad eating, bad thoughts and even fatigue are signs that something is wrong.
If we ingest cold based meals, too much raw items, eat in a rush, have unhealthy diet practices, or endure prolonged stressful conditions our organs along the Stomach meridian exhibit disharmony from the rest of the body. Other Stomach issues to look out for: belching, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, bad breath and lack of appetite.
